Humanae vitae: The Breathtaking Beauty of God’s Plan for Love and Family
Following the directive of her loving master Jesus Christ, the Church continues “in season and out of season” to proclaim her beautiful teaching on the conception of new human life. This teaching finds its wellspring deep within the being of God Himself, who “is Love”. Inviting human beings, unlike angels, to live in a communion of love with one another in imitation of His own Trinitarian life, He also called them to participate as co-creators of new human persons in the fruitful generosity of that divine love. Pope Paul VI’s encyclical Humanae vitae is a gift to the modern world that shows in a new way the breathtaking beauty of God’s plan for love and marriage.
Dr. Maria Fedoryka is associate professor of philosophy and Chair of the department at Ave Maria University. She lectures and publishes in the field of the philosophy of love, examining issues spanning from the centrality of love in the being of God, to its role at the center of creation, to its meaning for marriage, family, and sexuality. Among her publications are the booklet The Special Gift of Women for God, the Family and the World published by the Catholic Truth Society in England, as well as a number of popular and scholarly articles on Humanae vitae and on von Hildebrand’s philosophy of marital intimacy, and on topics relating to gender and marriage.
